Page/Plate InformationPlates in this publication are denoted as Tafels. Each plate presentation includes a magnifying glass. To view a larger image of the plate simply click the magnifying glass. To navigate the plates you may click the Next Tafel/Previous Tafel hyperlinks or you may go directly to the Plate Index Viewing and Image qualityThe pages in this volume are best viewed at 800x600 screen resolution or above. The quality of the images is variable, due to the variability of the source material. Two sources of original material were used both of which were photographic copies of indeterminate age. The smaller images occasionally suffer from loss of detail and darkening of the background and this is particularly prevalent in some of the earlier Tafels. This, however, improves considerably and in any case may not be so in the larger images which were scanned from a different source. Differences in quality may be appreciated by examining Tafel 10 and Tafel 91. Image UseUsers may wish to utilise the images and extract individual diatoms from the Tafels. This may be achieved using most image processing programs. Smaller images are in JPG format as are the larger images. The Tafel notes are in GIF format. For best detail the large images (in the folder ZOOM) should be used. You may use the images directly from the CD, where they are in the IMAGES or the ZOOM folder, or you may Right click (PC) or Middle click (MAC) on an image whilst in the Browser and save the image to your hard disk where it is then available for editing. Utility NotesFor PC users there is a plate printing program on the CD - PAGEPRNT.EXE. |
